Alfred Valenti

My grandfather was "Alfred Valenti" he was captured by the Japanese in Burma in 1940's. He was an Italian immigrant who came to Scotland (Clyde) in the 1930's along with his two brothers, Victor & Gabriel. They all fought for the British army during World War 2. My grandfather was first sent to Burma and fought along side the Gurka's against the Japanese.

He spent over 2 years as a prisoner of War in a Japanese camp. My grandmother received a telegram from the Queen to let her know that he was missing in action and feared dead.

Fortunately he was liberated by the US Army at the very end of the War. He would never speak about what went on in the camp. Whatever pain or torture he endured, he took to the grave, but my mother used to say "he would never forget or forgive the Japanese."

If you have any information regarding Alfred Valenti, please send an email to his grandson.
